Mediators

Lisa Feld

Lisa is a mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, trainer, and investigator. Lisa brings a practical, down-to-earth approach to the people and problem solving necessary to achieve successful resolutions.

Lisa received her LL.B. in 1988 from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, graduating magna cum laude, and she began to concentrate her efforts on ADR in 1992. In May 1993, Lisa was appointed a Visiting Scholar at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, and was awarded a research grant from the Ontario Fund for Dispute Resolution. Based on her research, Lisa completed a study and book entitled Mediating Professional Misconduct Complaints, that provides a framework for negotiating settlements as an alternative to formal complaints and discipline processes.

She was appointed to the Ontario Review Board as a legal member in 1993 and as chair in 1999. In this capacity, she conducted hearings where a panel determined fitness to stand trial and reviewed applications for dispositions by persons previously found to be not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder. She has also been appointed as an arbitrator by the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission.

Lisa's negotiation skills have led her to advise labour and management groups who seek new ideas for resolving conflicts in the collective bargaining process. Lisa facilitated the innovative 1999 - 2003 agreement between the Canadian Actors Equity Association and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres.

From the early 1990's, Lisa has conducted human rights and harassment investigations and mediations for public and private workplaces.

In 2004, Lisa was retained by the Ontario College of Teachers, to conduct a review of the use of the College's Dispute Resolution Program to resolve complaints of sexual abuse.

She is often retained to assist in resolving complaints and litigation involving health care providers, investment and financial advisors, real estate agents, insurance brokers and other professionals. Additionally, she has mediated two-party and multi-party disputes in numerous contexts, including commercial, employment, corporate governance, workplace, banking, personal injury and breach of contract.

Lisa operates out of the Toronto office of ADR Chambers.
