Claude M.V. Pensa, Q.C.

Claude Pensa Q.C. is a mediator and arbitrator with ADR Chambers.

He has mediated a number of disputes and has arbitrated on occasion.

He is Counsel to Harrison Pensa LLP, a major, full-service law firm in London consisting of some 50 lawyers serving clients in London and southwestern Ontario.

Claude began his practice in 1956 in the litigation law firm of Mitchell, Hockin & Dawson, a leading firm in the field of motor vehicle litigation and related insurance practice. He co-founded his own firm in 1962 which eventually became known as Pensa & Associates. His practice was almost exclusively in the field of advocacy. That firm merged in 1999 to form the new firm of Harrison Pensa LLP.

His experience includes appearances before Courts of every jurisdiction in Ontario as well as appearances in the Supreme Court of Canada. He is widely known and respected in diverse areas of insurance practice including motor vehicle litigation, fire liability, wrongful dismissal actions, occupier's liability, policy coverage issues, professional liability and general litigation.

While he had an extensive defence practice, he also did plaintiff work and personal injury, professional liability and medical malpractice claims.

He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1976 and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in San Antonio, Texas in 1995. He has been a member of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.

In the course of his career, he has been involved in professional associations and continuing legal education. He is a member and Past Director of the Advocates' Society; member and past member of the Council of the Canadian Bar Association of Ontario, past Senior Instructor of the Bar Admission Course (Risk Management), past Senior Instructor of the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course (Civil Procedure), member and past Trustee of the Middlesex Law Association, counsel to the Lawyers' Professional Indemnity Company (LawPRO), founding member of FAIR (Fair Action in Insurance Reform), and presenter of papers on contracts and legal malpractice at the Canadian Bar Association and Advocates' Society.

He received his Doctorem in Legibus (Hon.) at the University of Western Ontario in 1998. He was honoured by the Advocates' Society in London in 1999. He was a member of the Board of Governors for the University of Western Ontario and was its Chair in 1994-1995.

Claude received his mediation training from the Stitt Feld Handy Group, a division of ADR Chambers.

He is available for appointments throughout Southwestern Ontario as well as throughout Ontario and across Canada.
