John P. Hamilton
Mr. Hamilton practiced law in Toronto with the firm Weir Foulds LLP (and its predecessors) since 1954. He specialized in wills and estates, trusts, health law and mediation.
He is roster mediator, Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program - Toronto and has helped design a course in ADR for conflict resolution facilitators in the United Church of Canada. He has acted as a mediator in a number of disputes as a roster mediator and has mediated disputes that have arisen within the United Church of Canada.
Mr. Hamilton has been very active as a volunteer for the United Church of Canada and has also been active in the Ontario Bar Association and the St. Andrews Society of Toronto.
For many years Mr. Hamilton was a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross - president of the Ontario Division and Honourary Counsel to the national society. He was active as a volunteer in the University of Toronto - president of the University College Alumni Association, a member of the Governing Council of the University and a member of the College of Electors. He was a lecturer on Office Management and Real Estate in the Bar Admission Course. Mr. Hamilton was founding member of the Real Property Section of the OBA and the Charity and Non Profit Section of the OBA, the Canadian Association of University Solicitors and the Church Law Association of Canada. Practice included estates, real property (with emphasis on shopping centres), corporate - both for profit and non-profit and charities. He was outside legal counsel for the United Church of Canada and an active member (and legal panelist) of the Cremation Association of North America. He is, therefore, experienced in the law as it relates to cemeteries and crematoria.
