Graeme Mew, FCIArb.
Graeme Mew, FCIArb. is a Toronto-based mediator and arbitrator with ADR Chambers. Mr. Mew also maintains a practice in London, England and undertakes work there through ADR Chambers (UK and Europe website: www.adrchambers.co.uk).
With over a decade of experience as a mediator and arbitrator of a wide variety of disputes, Graeme also maintains an active practice as a partner with the Toronto office of Nicholl Paskell-Mede and as a member of Four New Square Chambers in London, England. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is accredited as a mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and is certified as an arbitrator and mediator by the AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society (ARIAS·U.S.).
As an advocate, Graeme has appeared in most levels of court in England, Ontario and British Columbia, including the Supreme Court of Canada as well as before domestic and international arbitration panels. He was temporarily admitted to the Bar of the United States District Court in the US Virgin Islands and has directed litigation in numerous jurisdictions in the United States and the Commonwealth Caribbean.
Graeme has mediated and arbitrated disputes in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Namibia and Australia. His mediation and arbitration assignments have included international, commercial, professional partnership, real property, franchise, professional liability, directors' and officers' liability, environmental, intellectual property, sports, insurance (including priority disputes), reinsurance and tort/personal injury matters.
Mr. Mew is a member of a number of distinguished panels of sports arbitrators and/or mediators, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) based in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Sports Disputes Resolution Centre of Canada and the Sports Disputes Resolution Panel in the UK. He also serves as a Judicial officer for the International Rugby Board where his assignments have included numerous doping cases and chairing appeals at the Rugby World Cup tournaments in Australia (2003) and France (2007).
Graeme's book, the Law of Limitations (Butterworths, 2004) is the well-regarded leading Canadian text on the law of limitations. He has also written widely for publication on insurance law, tort and the legal profession. He is active in many professional organizations, most notably the Commonwealth Lawyers Association of which he has served as President from 2005-2007.
Graeme holds law degrees from Kingston University (1980) and the University of Windsor (1986). He was called to the Bar of England & Wales by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 1982 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1987.
Mr. Mew has also received additional training in negotiation and the mediation process from Stitt Feld Handy Group, a Division of ADR Chambers Inc.
