John G. Davies, B.Arch., C.Arb.
John Davies is an arbitrator, fairness monitor, mediator and neutral evaluator with ADR Chambers.
John is a Chartered Arbitrator, Registered Architect and a Fellow and Special Advisor to Council, Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI). He is a Professional Member of the Dispute Board Federation in Geneva, Switzerland, and a member of the ADR Institutes of Canada and Ontario. John served as a member of the Working Group of Construction Dispute Resolution Alternatives with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, is an affiliate member of the Ontario Bar Association ADR and Construction sections, a licensed member of the Ontario Association of Architects and an integrated member of the Canadian Design-Build Institute.
In 1997, John attended the Program for Instruction of Lawyers (Fisher and Patton), Negotiation at Harvard Law School. He completed his B.Arch. at Carleton University School of Architecture in 1977 with a minor in Legal Studies and attended Liverpool Polytechnic, School of Architecture UK in 1962 for his Intermediate Certificate RIBA.
John brings over 50 years of construction and architectural expertise to mediations and arbitrations and has participated in the resolution of design and construction related disputes throughout Canada. John is familiar with methods of contracting for both design and construction used by the Private Sector and Federal Government and has assisted Public Works and Government Services Canada with various claims in the capacity of a third party neutral advisor.
John is an expert in all forms of design and construction procurement and is a specialist in the Design-Build method of construction. He has recently set up standard International Dispute Adjudication Board procedures and criteria for a Federal Government Department for use in their construction projects overseas.
John is an accomplished speaker and educator and has delivered seminars throughout Canada on a range of topics including ADR. He has taught at Carleton University, the Ontario Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. John has written many papers and publications on architecture, construction and design. In 2000, John was the recipient of the City of Ottawa Award of Excellence (Heritage Restoration).
