Richard H. Krempulec, LL.M. (ADR)
Richard was called to the bar in 1963, appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 1978, and certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation in 1988. Richard attended the Harvard Law School course on mediation in Toronto. In 1999 he received a Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution from York University and completed the Stitt Feld Handy Group ADR and Advanced ADR Workshops in January and March 2009.
Richard has practiced at Blaney McMurtry LLP as a civil litigator for over 45 years, specializing in resolving insurance and corporate/commercial disputes of various categories including class action and directors and officers’ lawsuits. His practice consisted of claims involving professional liability, securities, property damage, machinery breakdown claims, and coverage matters under commercial liability, property, and other commercial policies.
He has presented numerous papers on a variety of topics including actions against directors and officers, professional liability, property losses and a variety of insurance coverage disputes. He is the author of a manual published by Canada Law Book entitled “Property Damage Claims Under Commercial Insurance Policies” which is updated yearly.
Richard’s many years in settling insurance and other commercial disputes has been based upon encouraging the parties to critically analyze the strength of their case and that of the other party. He has found that this approach best enables the parties to achieve a settlement. His style is proactive in offering suggestions and different approaches to settlement without being intrusive.
