The Honourable W. Vaughan Hembroff, Q.C.

The Honourable W. Vaughan Hembroff is a mediator and arbitrator with ADR Chambers.

Mr. Hembroff mediates and arbitrates a variety of cases dealing with employment, estates & trusts, insurance, personal injury, municipal matters and real estate.

Mr. Hembroff received his B.A. in English and Political Science from the University of British Columbia and his LL.B. at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law. He was called to the Bar in 1963.

He practiced law with Virtue & Co. until 1991. He began as an Associate and later became a Senior Partner. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1980 and in 1991, was elected as a Bencher of the Law Society Alberta. In December of 1991, Mr. Hembroff was appointed Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta.

Mr. Hembroff is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, and he has been Chairman of both the Southern Alberta Legal Aid Society and the Legal Aid Society of Alberta. Mr. Hembroff was also a respected member of the Attorney General's Task Force on Legal Aid. He is a member of International Association of Jurists and lectured at the University of Calgary, Advanced Advocacy Course-Legal Education Society of Alberta.

Mr. Hembroff sat as an ex officio Member of the Court of Appeal Alberta, as a Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories and as a Deputy Judge of the Nunavut Court of Justice.

In addition to Mr. Hembroff's professional career experience is the extensive community work he has performed over many years. Mr. Hembroff served three terms for a total of nine years as Alderman of the City of Lethbridge. While Alderman, he also acted as Deputy Mayor for one year, Chairman of the Municipal Planning Commission, Chairman of the committee responsible for the building of the Canada Winter Games Sportsplex and Chairman of the Council Committee that negotiated with Woodward's and the Government of Alberta leading to the development of the new Provincial Building and Woodwards in downtown Lethbridge.

Mr. Hembroff was also a contributing community member with additional past titles such as Member of the Senate of the University of Calgary, Vice President Board of Director at the Lethbridge Golf and Country Club, Board Member of the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, President of the Lethbridge YMCA (2 years), President of Lethbridge Musical Theatre (7 years) and Honorary Solicitor for the Lethbridge Symphony Association. More recently, in 2003, Mr. Hembroff was presented the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in celebration of her fiftieth year on the throne of Great Britain, and as well the Alberta Centennial Medal.
