His arbitration experience includes: acting as Chair of an ICC arbitration in the construction industry; a member of a three-person panel in an aviation-related dispute in Canada; member of an arbitration panel for a dispute in the petrochemical industry; sole arbitrator in an international ICC arbitration involving parties from Canada, Italy and the United States; arbitrator in a dispute related to ownership of property; LCIA sole arbitrator in a dispute involving an international trade issue between the U.K. and North America; sole arbitrator in gaming industry disputes; sole arbitrator in an international dispute in the entertainment industry.

Mr. Allen has mediated professional negligence disputes, commercial disputes, environmental disputes, intellectual property disputes, and construction disputes.

From 1967 to 1989, Mr. Allen was a partner in Davies, Ward & Beck. From 1989 to 1994, he was a partner at Gordon Capital Partners. He returned to Davies from 1994-1996 and from 1996 until the present, he has been a senior partner in the Toronto office of Oglivie Renault. He represents the firm in Toronto and in London, England.

He is a member of the board of Directors of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (and a member of various committees including the Executive Committee), a member of the Advisory Board of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions of Canada.

He is the author of the Rules of Arbitration and Conciliation of the International Arbitral Centre of the Federal Economic Chamber, Vienna.
