Christopher D. Bredt

Chris is an arbitrator and mediator with ADR Chambers.

Chris has domestic and international experience in corporate and commercial disputes involving shareholder/partnership issues, professional liability, construction, real estate, class actions, contracts, securities, and intellectual property. He also has expertise in public law, including regulatory issues in the areas of environmental/energy, securities, constitutional and First Nation issues.

Chris has extensive experience in adjudication and mediation. He has been a member of the Law Society Tribunal since 2008 and served as Vice-Chair of the Appeal Panel from 2016 to 2019. He has been a member of the Ontario Judicial Counsel since 2016, sitting on discipline proceedings involving provincial court judges.  He chairs discipline panels for IIROC (now CIRO – Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization).

Before he retired to mediate and arbitrate full time, Chris was a senior litigation partner/counsel at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He has over 35 years of experience handling complex commercial litigation and arbitration matters and has been consistently recognized in the areas of commercial litigation and public law litigation in Chambers Canada, Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert and Benchmark Canada.

Chris earned a B.A. in economics and a LL.B. (with distinction) at Western University and a LL.M. at the Yale Law School.  He completed post-graduate studies at Columbia Law School (Jervey Fellow) and has a D.S.U. (Droit Administratif) from the Université de Paris II. Before joining BLG, Chris served as a law clerk to Mr. Justice McIntyre of the Supreme Court of Canada and was an intern with the Council of State in Paris, France. He was awarded the Law Society Medal in 2022.
